Trauma Focused-CBT

TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents and adult survivors overcome the destructive impact of a traumatic event. TF-CBT is especially sensitive to the unique problems of youth with post-traumatic stress and mood disorders resulting from abuse, violence, or grief. TF-CBT often brings non-offending parents or caregivers into the treatment process.

What to Expect

TF-CBT is a short-term intervention that generally lasts a total of 15-25 sessions. This includes sessions with the teen, parent sessions, and family sessions (when appropriate). TF-CBT helps reduce difficult feelings and symptoms, ultimately reinstating a sense of control and empowerment within the client. With the support of the therapist the client will learn about their trauma and develop the skills to manage their distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors they may be experiencing as a symptom of their trauma.
